BSc, MbChB, PhD, FRCS
I am a Senior Consultant Surgeon in post 20 years and specialise in surgery of the liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and bile ducts. One of my areas of expertise is surgery to remove the gallbladder. As a specialist in this area, I am accustomed to dealing with the full range of complexity of such cases and provide region-wide advice, guidance, and help in this specialist area. My work also includes complex surgery of the liver, pancreas, and bile ducts, often for cancers of those organs.
At Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital, I carry out laparoscopic cholecystectomy operations (keyhole removal of the gallbladder), usually for gallstones. As a cancer specialist, I also provide consultations in relation to the treatment of liver, bile duct, and pancreas tumours.
I qualified in Bristol and after completing junior doctor posts at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, I worked at Bristol University as an anatomy demonstrator to undergraduate medical students. I subsequently undertook a PhD in cancer molecular biology at Oxford University in the laboratories of the Institute of Molecular Medicine at the John Radcliffe Hospital. I undertook my initial surgical training in Oxford and then moved to Cambridge for senior surgical training. I completed my specialty hepato-pancreato-biliary and liver transplant training by carrying out a fellowship at the Centre Hepatobiliaire at Paul Brousse Hospital in Paris. Now at Addenbrookes Hospital, I am a senior member of a team delivering care in one of the highest volume tertiary specialist centres in the country.
I led the centralisation of liver surgery at Addenbrookes Hospital, where I am the lead and Chairman for the liver metastatic tumours multi-disciplinary team and lead a liver regeneration research project as a PhD supervisor. In former years, I was lead for infection control and patient safety at Addenbrookes Hospital.
