Mr George Verghese

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon practising in North London, with over 15 years of Consultant experience. After qualification as a doctor from the Armed Forces’ Medical College in India, I trained widely in orthopaedics and gained considerable specialist expertise in spinal surgery, which forms the majority of my orthopaedic practice.

The spinal treatments I offer include discectomy, spinal decompression, kyphoplasty, dynamic spinal stabilisation, fusion and spinal injections. I also treat back pain, sciatica, problems of the ageing spine, slipped disc, joint replacements (hip and knee).

Problems affecting the spine, hips and knees are often interconnected; the symptoms can often mimic each other. Given my background with both spinal surgery and joint replacement, I am able to offer a one-stop solution to patients with such mixed symptoms. 

In my clinical practice, I perform approximately 100 major operations and 200 minor procedures per year. My surgical revision rate and post-operative blood transfusion rate in negligible; my surgical complication rate it also very low. The hospital stay following routine hip/knee replacements and spinal decompression/fusion average about two days.

I also retain a keen interest in trauma surgery and am active on the faculty of the AO Foundation. I am a member of the British Association of Spinal Surgeons and an orthopaedic trainer with London Deanery.
