MD, Honorary Associate Professor
"I love working at Spire Hospital. Its facilities are outstanding and the entire staff committed to each patient's need."
I am a Consultant Medical Oncologist for Lung and Urology tumours at the Department of Oncology of Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust and Honorary Associate Professore at the Faculty of Science and Health, School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, University of Portsmouth, UK.
In the last three years, I worked as the lead of clinical and translational research for thoracic tumours at Candiolo Cancer Institute, FPO-IRCCS, Turin, Italy, clinician scientist and consultant for lung and urology tumours at the Lincolnshire United Hospitals, the University of Lincoln and Nottingham, and Portsmouth University NHS Hospitals Trust in the UK.
My expertise and current scientific focus is on: anticancer systemic treatments (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted agents and hormonal therapy) for lung cancer, prostate, bladder/urothelial, renal cancers and mesothelioma; development of predictive models for immunotherapy, particularly those incorporating blood immune-inflammatory indexes; conduction of systematic review and meta-analysis; design of investigator initiated studies with novel anticancer therapy combinations; development of projects for the assessment and monitoring of adherence to anticancer oral treatments; development of tools to facilitate frailty assessment in oncology.
My professional objective to offer the patient the best-individualised treatment and support.
I have been leading more than 20 clinical and translational commercial and academic studies for lung and urology as Principal Investigator and joining European research networks. I published about 200 scientific papers in peer-reviewed and indexed journals.
In addition to my clinical work, I am also proud to be: an Honorary Associate Professore at the Faculty of Science and Health, School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, University of Portsmouth, UK; Educational and Clinical Supervisor, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust; Scientific Consultant - Clinical Pharmacology, Oncology, AIFA - Italian Medicines Agency; Referee for international research committees like the International Committee for Clinical Cancer Research of the Institut National du Cancer, the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF Kankerbestrijding) and Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF); Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator of clinical trials at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.
