My clinical practice at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital is similar to my NHS practice in Cambridge at Addenbrooke's Hospital, which involves hip and knee joint surgery and adult trauma care. My main areas of interest are young and mature adult hip and knee pain. I undertake primary and revision joint replacement surgery, hip resurfacing, arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery and trauma surgery. I have been a Consultant in Orthopaedic and Trauma surgery in Cambridge for almost 25 years.

After training in the UK, I spent a year working in a dedicated lower limb joint replacement unit in Adelaide, South Australia. I have substantial experience with cemented and uncemented primary and revision hip replacement surgery for various hip conditions, including hip resurfacing. For primary hip replacement surgery, I favour a cemented Exeter or CPT femoral stem (which have very long clinical follow-up) and either a cemented or uncemented socket (hybrid replacement). For revision surgery, I favour impaction bone allografting when bone quality is poor and additional reconstruction is required, or on some occasions a long uncemented stem. For resurfacing I use the Adept Hip or Birmingham Hip. I have undertaken some 5,000 hip replacement procedures.

My practice in knee surgery includes arthroscopic surgery, for meniscal tears and early osteoarthritis, and joint replacement surgery. I favour a cemented knee replacement, typically the Genesis 2 or Triathlon knee, which have been used for many years. I also undertake adult trauma management, for patients with fractures and other injuries.

To improve accuracy and reproducibility, I use the MAKO robot when appropriate for primary hip and knee replacement surgery.
