I am a Consultant Urological Surgeon with 36 years of experience in urology, including more than 25 years as a consultant and extensive experience within both NHS and private practice. My particular specialist interest is kidney stone disease, and I have led NHS kidney stone and laser services for many years. I also have extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of prostate cancer, prostate conditions, urinary symptoms, blood in the urine (haematuria), urinary tract infections and a wide range of common male urological conditions.Â
I specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of kidney stones, offering a range of treatment options including ureteroscopy, laser stone surgery, keyhole stone surgery and shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL). I also assess and treat men with enlarged prostate problems and lower urinary tract symptoms, including difficulty passing urine, poor urinary flow, frequency and urgency, discussing both medical and surgical treatment options where appropriate.
My practice includes the investigation of raised or changing PSA levels, prostate symptoms, prostate cancer and suspected prostate disease, alongside the prompt assessment of haematuria using investigations such as imaging, urine testing and cystoscopy where required. I also manage recurrent or persistent urinary tract infections in both men and women and treat a range of scrotal conditions including hydroceles, epididymal cysts and other testicular or scrotal problems. In addition, I provide assessment and treatment for conditions requiring adult circumcision.
I have extensive experience in assessing patients with symptoms or test results that may indicate prostate, bladder, kidney or testicular cancer, ensuring appropriate investigation, referral and treatment where necessary.
My aim is to provide patients with a clear diagnosis, explain all available treatment options and arrange appropriate investigations and treatment without unnecessary delay. I have experience managing both straightforward and complex urological conditions and see both self-paying and insured patients.
I qualified in medicine in 1984 and completed my specialist urological training in Oxford before being appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon in 2000. I hold FRCS (Urology) and am a Fellow of the European Board of Urology (FEBU).
Alongside my clinical practice, I have trained and supervised doctors in urological surgery throughout my consultant career. My specialist interests continue to focus on kidney stone disease and minimally invasive stone surgery, alongside the assessment and treatment of prostate cancer and common adult urological conditions.
