Specialises in
I have been a consultant Orthopaedic surgeon specialising in knee and hip surgery since 2011. My main area of interests are sports injuries of the knee and knee preservation surgery (surgery to prevent total knee replacement). I am a regional expert in patella (kneecap) stabilisation surgery and patellofemoral joint replacement. I have a keen interest in cartilage regeneration and repair, which I studied during my MSc. year at Imperial College, London.
I am skilled at knee and hip replacements, as well as partial knee replacements. I practice evidence-based medicine and always use implants based on their long term performance according to the National Joint Registry (NJR). I will also use the best bearing surfaces to ensure long term survival of the implants. I keep up-to-date with recent advances and I am proficient at implanting a 4th generation total knee replacement, which matches the movements of a normal knee. The uni-compartment knee (partial or half knee) that I use has the lowest revision rate and best long term survival according to the NJR.
I am the regional expert in patello-femoral joint replacement and have performed over 100 patella stabilistaions for instability with a 0% re-dislocation rate. I use a range of techniques to repair or regenerate articular cartilage, including micro-fracture, use of collagen matrix and autologous transplants.
Number of procedures to date: Total knee replacement 2,000; Partial knee replacement 500; Total hip replacement 1,00; Knee arthroscopy 3,200; Patello femoral joint replacements 50; Patella stabilisation 200.
I have been Clinic Lead for orthopaedics, Division Medical Director for surgery and am currently Clinical Director for Transformation at JPUH.
I completed my higher surgical training in London before completing two specialist Fellowships in Adelaide and London.

I captained my university cricket team and went on to win three successive tournaments. I still enjoy club cricket as well as tennis, skiing and golf. I have recently taken up jogging and completed The Great North Run in September 2019. In my spare time I am a keen cook and enjoy family holidays and TV and films. I spend as much time as I can with my wife, three children and our crazy Spaniel.
