Specialises in
I specialise in hand surgery, peripheral nerve surgery and the management of trauma, including reconstructive plastic surgery following trauma and have been working as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in the NHS since 2015.
I have performed over 4,000 operations. The most common problems that I see and treat include the generality of hand and wrist surgery, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, Dupuytren’s contracture, basal thumb arthritis and ganglion cysts. I also manage traumatic injuries such as fractures, tendon injuries and nerve damage.
In 2014, to complement my plastic surgery training, I undertook senior fellowship training for a year in a busy orthopaedic hand surgery unit in Auckland, New Zealand. Due to my specific training in both plastic and orthopaedic surgery, I am able to bring the best of both specialties to treating my patients and am equally comfortable treating fractures and arthritis as I am nerve problems and scarring.
In 2012, I was one of only six international fellows selected to spend a year learning cutting-edge microsurgical reconstructive techniques under Professor Fu-Chan Wei and his colleagues at a world-renowned centre in Taiwan. Further subspecialist training was gained from a visiting fellowship to St Louis, Missouri USA, to learn advanced peripheral nerve surgery from another world expert, Professor Susan Mackinnon. As a result of my subspecialty training I often receive referrals from other hand surgeons regarding patients with ongoing pain and functional problems following injury or previous surgery.
I am the designated plastic surgeon for the Swansea Artificial Limb Centre and consequently perform all amputation stump revision procedures for their catchment population. This includes surgery for bony overgrowth, nerve pain problems, such as neuroma, and issues with soft tissue padding and scarring.
I am passionate about education and sit on the Plastic Surgery Specialty Training Committee for Wales. I am also a panelist for UK National Selection of future plastic surgery trainees and am an elected member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand’s Education and Training Committee.
