Appointed as a Consultant in 2012. I am an enthusiastic and hardworking team member of the internationally renowned Trauma Unit at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
I am fellowship trained in trauma and sub-specialty shoulder reconstruction plus an excellent training in hand, wrist and elbow surgery. I am passionate about quality and care improvements for patients.
I completed my surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the West of Scotland. I have enjoyed working with Orthopaedic teams in Glasgow, Ayrshire, London and Edinburgh. I also trained with plastic surgeons at the Royal London; St Barts Hospitals and spent time working in the Gold Coast Hospitals in Australia (treating shark bites amongst other, more common, traumas). I take part in active in research and I was the winner of a Tenovus funding grant for molecular research into frozen shoulders.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Iain Brown at Spire include:
Orthopaedics
Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh
British Elbow and Shoulder Surgeons Society
Edinburgh International Trauma Faculty
Society of Scottish Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons
British Orthopaedic Association
Frozen shoulders and MMP Production
Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
Honorary Clinical Tutor at University of Edinburgh.
I live in North Berwick, East Lothian and am therefore compelled by local by-laws to play golf. This has unfortunately not lead to any improvement in my game. I perform more successfully as a Tenor with Opera East Lothian and can pull off an excellent rendition of most Disney ballads at the request of my two young daughters. Despite being more of a rugby fan I have enjoyed many trips as Lead Doctor with the Scottish Football Association medical team. I come from a long line of West Coast doctors and farmers but am grateful I can now spend my summer weekends enjoying the East Lothian beaches rather than getting sheep ready for a show.
