MBChB, BSC (Hons), PhD, FRCS (C-TH)
I am a British, UK, Australian and European trained surgeon who performs all aspects of adult cardiac surgery, with a specialist interest in mitral valve repair and minimal access techniques. I have a repair rate of over 90% for degenerative mitral valve lesions which include complex bi leaflet prolapse, Barlow's valves and infective endocarditis.
I currently work as a consultant cardiac surgeon at the Royal Sussex County Hospital and Montefiore Hospital in Brighton.
I have been awarded multiple fellowship awards by the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (UK) and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. This enabled me to train with world class surgeons in Brussels and Lyon (Dr Hugo Vanerman and Professor Obadia) to facilitate my expertise in mitral valve surgery.
I have been invited to speak about the benefits of mitral surgery and minimal access techniques on a national level. I was recently invited to Mount Sinai in New York to further my mitral expertise.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Ishtiaq Ahmed at Spire include:

I live and work in Brighton. I have a young family and after spending much of my life in the Northeast, I am enjoying exploring the south coast. My main hobbies outside of work are swimming and cycling. I worked as a doctor at the 2011 World (indoor) Track Cycling Championships and have spent much time in the French Alps.
