Mr James Broome

Mr James Broome

Consultant Urological Surgeon

MBChB, BSc (Hons), FRCS (Urol)

I practice in all areas of general urology, however, my main areas of sub-specialty interest are prostate cancer diagnostics and the management of complex renal stones.

Following my education in the North West, I went on to study Pharmacology at the University of Leeds where I was awarded a First Class Honours degree. Subsequently, I undertook a second degree, studying Medicine at the University of Manchester, and graduated in 2010. I then began surgical training in Greater Manchester and completed further specialty training in Merseyside and Cheshire.

I was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Salford Royal Foundation Trust in 2019 and then as Clinical Director for the service in 2021.

Currently, I lead the prostate cancer diagnostic service as well as being one of two dedicated stone surgeons in my NHS practice. I therefore offer a full range of stone treatments including PCNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy), ESWL (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy) and ureteroscopy. I also offer screening for underlying conditions which predispose to renal stones. Furthermore, I can offer bespoke advice on reducing the risks of further stone formation.

I have a keen interest in technology and medical devices and have recently worked in this field, ensuring that devices are safe for patient use.

In my managerial role as Clinical Director, I am responsible for leading a large tertiary NHS department and improving the care for urology patients across Salford and the North of the city.

I am part of a multidisciplinary team, which includes two female urologists, offering a comprehensive range of treatments for a variety of urological conditions.
