I am one of the most senior cardiac surgeons in United Kingdom, having performed more than 4,000 heart operations in UK with outstanding clinical results. I have been awarded as one of the very few surgeons with the highest survival rate in UK for five consecutive years.
I have a vast experience in all fields of cardiac surgery, including coronary bypass surgery, aortic and mitral valve surgery, and aortic aneurysms. My special interest is in complex aortic surgery, where I developed a unique surgical technique to make aortic surgery simpler and suitable for all ages and all levels of frailty. I am one of the three specialist cardiac surgeons treating aortic dissections in Leicester.
I have been working in University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust for 24 years and have served as Head of Cardiac Service and Dep. Clinical Director and I am currently the Clinical Audit Lead. I am a national expert in complex aortic surgery (aortic aneurysms).
I grew up in Athens, Greece, where I achieved my medical degree and served as a doctor in the Greek Navy for two years. I was trained as a Cardiac Surgeon in St Mary’s Paddington, Royal Brompton and National Heart, Guys Hospital, St Barts and London Chest in London. Since them I have held a consultant post in Huddinge Hospital at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, and have worked as Senior Lecturer in University of Leicester for three years.
I have a passion with national and local politics and has been a County and a Borough councillor for many years, serving in a number of scrutiny committees.
