In my private practice sessions at Spire Dunedin Hospital I aim to provide high quality, specialist ophthalmic treatment in a friendly atmosphere, with care delivered in person and tailored to each individual patient’s needs.
I am the senior corneal/anterior segment specialist in the region, with corneal and external eye disease clinics and operating lists at The Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading and the Oxford Eye Hospital. I also run a dedicated cataract surgery operating list, using micro-incision techniques and topical anaesthesia (eye-drops only) at West Berkshire Community Hospital, Newbury, as well as general ophthalmology clinics in Newbury. I am Clinical Director of Head and Neck services at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust and a Visiting Lecturer in the School of Biological Sciences at Reading University.
I am particularly interested in the visual outcomes of cataract surgery and have researched the use of multifocal and toric intra-ocular lenses following cataract surgery. I am experienced in refractive lens exchange surgery and am able to offer bilateral same-day cataract and lens surgery to patients who prefer the more rapid recovery from surgery that this provides.
In 2003 I was awarded my MD on the use of multifocal intraocular lenses. I was appointed as Corneal Transplant Surgeon to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in 2001 and the Oxford Eye Hospital in 2003. I am a Consultant Clinical Supervisor of ophthalmology doctors in postgraduate training within the Oxford Deanery and offer advanced subspecialty training in cataract and corneal disease.
I introduced lamellar corneal transplant surgery to the region, carrying out Descemet’s stripping (DSEK) and Descemet’s membrane keratoplasty (DMEK partial thickness graft), deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK), as well as penetrating keratoplasty (full-thickness graft) and revision corneal transplantation. I am a teaching member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Microsurgical Skills Faculty.
I am a Consultant Clinical Supervisor of ophthalmology doctors in postgraduate training within the Oxford Deanery and offer advanced subspecialty training in cataract and corneal disease. I was appointed as Corneal Transplant Surgeon to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in 2001 and the Oxford Eye Hospital in 2003.
My undergraduate study was at Manchester University, where I received the award for the highest academic marks over six years of study. Higher surgical training was completed at The Western Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, where I gained experience in all the major ophthalmic subspecialties, culminating in sub-specialist training in corneal, cataract and external eye disease.
Surgery can be carried out under local anaesthetic or general anaesthetic, supported by experienced consultant anaesthetists and a highly skilled ophthalmic nursing team.
