"I am proud to be a part of Spire Healthcare, where every aspect of care is driven by compassion, collaboration and excellence."
I am a highly skilled Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon with a passion for transforming lives through advanced surgical and endoscopic care. With my experience in bariatric surgery, complex hiatal repairs, and anti-reflux procedures, I provide personalised treatments that help patients achieve lasting health and well-being. My expertise extends to diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including intragastric balloon insertions and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, offering innovative non-surgical solutions for weight management. By combining minimally invasive techniques with a patient-centred approach, I strive to deliver exceptional outcomes tailored to each individuals needs.Â
I specialise in advanced bariatric and upper gastrointestinal surgery, providing a comprehensive range of treatments to support patients in achieving significant weight loss and long-term health benefits. My expertise includes laparoscopic gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and gastric banding, alongside complex hiatal hernia repairs and anti-reflux surgery. I am also trained in endobariatric procedures, such as endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty and intragastric balloon insertions, including adjustable balloons, offering non-surgical weight management options. Additionally, I perform laparoscopic cholecystectomy, complex benign upper GI procedures, and general surgery for hernias, including groin and umbilical hernia repairs.
By combining minimally invasive techniques with personalised, patient-centred care, I strive to enhance outcomes and improve the overall quality of life for my patients.
My experience in laparoscopic bariatric surgery has been enhanced by two years of working at Heartlands Hospital, where I completed the Ethicon Bariatric Trainee Pathway. This training provided invaluable exposure to complex bariatric cases, significantly refining my skills in minimally invasive surgery. In addition to laparoscopic procedures, I have developed expertise in endobariatric surgery, having successfully performed endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty and intragastric balloon insertions, including adjustable gastric balloons.
This broad skill set allows me to offer a comprehensive range of surgical and non-surgical weight loss solutions, ensuring tailored care for each patient.
I hold the position of Consultant Bariatric and Upper GI Surgeon at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, where I am actively involved in service development and leadership. I have been appointed as the Governance Lead for General Surgery, a role in which I ensure the highest standards of patient safety, clinical excellence, and compliance with regulatory requirements across the department. In addition, I am leading the initiative to establish a state-of-the-art Upper GI robotic surgery program within the Trust, bringing advanced technology and minimally invasive techniques to enhance patient outcomes. These responsibilities reflect my commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in surgical care.
In addition to my clinical work, I am deeply committed to surgical education and training. I am proud to be part of the West Midlands Simulation Faculty, where I contribute to the development and delivery of high-quality simulation-based learning for surgical trainees. As a certified faculty member for both the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) courses, I play an active role in equipping future surgeons with the essential skills and knowledge to manage complex clinical scenarios. My passion for teaching and mentoring reflects my dedication to fostering excellence in the next generation of surgical professionals.
I am actively involved in initiatives to enhance and expand bariatric care within my Trust. My current focus is on developing the bariatric unit to meet increasing patient demand while ensuring the delivery of continuous, effective metabolic care. This involves strategic planning to increase staffing levels in both Tier 3 and Tier 4 services, creating a robust multidisciplinary team capable of providing comprehensive weight management and metabolic surgery services. By strengthening the team and streamlining care pathways, I aim to improve patient access, reduce waiting times, and uphold the highest standards of care for individuals on their weight loss and health improvement journeys.
Beyond my clinical and educational roles, I am deeply interested in exploring the intersection of technology and surgery to improve patient outcomes. In particular, I am passionate about the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in surgical care, including its potential to enhance decision-making, precision, and efficiency in complex procedures. I am committed to staying at the forefront of advancements in this field, integrating innovative solutions into my practice to deliver cutting-edge care. Additionally, I enjoy mentoring and collaborating with like-minded professionals to advance research and innovations that will shape the future of surgery.
