Specialises in
I have been a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Southend Hospital for over 12 years and I have extensive experience in the investigation and treatment of a range of bowel conditions and hernias.
I specialise in general and colorectal surgery with a particular expertise in the diagnosis and management of bowel cancer, abdominal wall hernias and bowel problems after radiotherapy.
I trained at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in London, then as a surgeon in North East London and Essex. I spent a period of research at St Mark's Hospital in Harrow and gained a doctorate in the study of familial forms of bowel cancer.
I have developed a specialist interest in the management of patients with bowel problems after receiving pelvic radiotherapy for cancer, seeing patients from across Essex with this condition.
I have extensive experience in diagnostic endoscopy, having carried out in excess of 1,500 gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures. I have performed around 400 laparoscopic (keyhole) bowel cancer operations and around the same number of hernia repairs including complex hernias of the abdominal wall. I also have extensive experience of surgery for anal conditions such haemorrhoids, fissures and fistulas.
I am the chair of the Southend Hospital Colorectal Cancer Multidisciplinary meeting, making key decisions on the treatment of patients diagnosed with bowel cancer.
I am the educational and clinical supervisor to a number of junior doctors and am passionate about the training of tomorrow's surgeons. I am also the President of the South Essex and East London Ileostomy association, supporting patients with stomas.
