Mr Ninaad Awsare

Consultant Urological Surgeon

MD, MCh (Urol), FRCS (Urol), FEBU

"I enjoy working at Spire. It is a great hospital with a friendly team that come together in the best interest of the patient."

I have been working as a Urologist for 20 years and an NHS consultant since 2012. I have trained in general and diagnostic urology and subspecialised in the management of urinary stones and prostate issues. I have been trained to perform the Urolift (Prostatic Urethral Lift) procedure and have been carrying these out since 2017.

In addition to the Urolift procedure, I also carry out a range of diagnostic procedures including flexible cystoscopy, transperineal and transrectal prostate biopsies and TURP. I provide treatment for several conditions such as recurrent urinary tract infections, prostatitis, prostatism (enlarged prostate), problems with the foreskin and testicular lumps. I also offer vasectomy under local and general anaesthesia. I have experience in dealing with a wide range of problems including kidney lumps and cysts, bladder and prostate cancer.

I have been the Clinical Lead for Urology at the Countess of Chester Hospital since 2017. During this time, I have introduced a number of innovations, such as nurse-led fast track virtual clinics for suspected cancer, Urolift implantation, streamlining of the on call service, and local anaesthetic transperineal prostate biopsy, among others.

In addition to my clinical interests, I am a GMC recognised educational supervisor for Foundation Trainee and Higher Speciality Trainee Doctors. I am involved in their regular training, assessment and appraisal. Furthermore, I am a member of the Speciality Training and Education Committee for Urology at Health Education England- North West. I am involved in training sessions for other Education Supervisors. As well as this, I am involved in the annual assessment of urology trainees. This is to determine their progress towards becoming a consultant. In the past, I have been the Clinical Audit Lead for Urology at COCH (Countess of Chester Hospital).

I serve as the chair of the Cheshire and Wirral Benign Urology Area Network. This involves coordinating services across the four NHS hospitals in the region, from Arrow Park in the West to Warrington and Crewe in the East. This is an increasingly important role as the NHS hospitals look to collaborate across the region to facilitate faster and easier access for patients to different services, outside their own local hospital.
