MBBS, FRCS (ORL-HNS)
I am a consultant ENT surgeon and sub-specialist rhinologist at Southampton University Hospitals. I was a trainee on the south coast ENT registrar rotation. Throughout 1997 I was a clinical ENT fellow in Cape Town, South Africa and have spent further periods of training as a rhinology fellow in various ENT departments throughout Europe and the USA.
Although trained as a general adult and paediatric ENT surgeon, the specialty of ENT surgery has grown enormously and it is no longer possible to keep up to date and provide a high quality service in every area of ENT practice. Therefore, my Southampton University Hospitals ENT collegues and I are swiftly moving towards sub-specialisation both within our NHS department and in the private sector.
I have been developing the sub-specialty of rhinology locally through the extended role of minimally invasive endoscopic techniques and have set up a research base through close association with other university departments. I perform nasal plastic surgery utilising both closed and open (external) rhinoplasty techniques and I have a major interest in chronic facial pain.
I am a member of the Medical Advisory Committee at Spire Southampton Hospital.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Philip Harries at Spire include:
Ear Nose and Throat (ENT)
Other treatments
Consultant ENT Surgeon, Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust.
I am married to a consultant paediatrician, who has a major interest in dyspraxia, and we have two sons. My major interests outside of work are sports-related, although I have a long term ambition to own and manage a small restaurant.
