I was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in March 2014. My clinical interests include the management of colorectal cancer, pelvic floor problems, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, anal conditions (eg piles and fissures) and groin and abdominal wall hernias. I am proficient in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and both diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy.
I qualified from Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals Medical School in 2000 having intercalated a BSc degree in Neuroscience. I undertook Basic Surgical Training at Kent and Canterbury Hospital and Specialist Registrar Training in the South West Thames region, which included training at St George's, St Peter's and Frimley Park Hospitals. I did a Fellowship at St Thomas' Hospital, London. I am a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
I undertook a two year period of research at University College London investigating bowel dysfunction and pelvic floor problems in persons with spinal injury. I was awarded a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree for my thesis in 2010.
I have presented my work both nationally and internationally and have a number of publications.
I am currently lead for Colorectal Cancer and Anorectal Physiology. I am also an Honorary Senior Research Associate at University College, London.
