After qualification, I trained in most of the main university hospitals in the West Midlands and developed a keen interest in laparoscopic surgery; such that the vast majority of my surgical work is now performed with keyhole surgery.
I spent further time gaining valuable specialist training with some of the leading world experts and pioneering surgeons in the fields of Upper GI cancer, anti-reflux and weight loss surgery in centres of excellence in UK, Europe, Tokyo, and Australia.
I see research and education as an integral part of my clinical work. A collaborative study between University College London and University of Birmingham culminated in a higher degree on the subject of oesophageal cancer. I have published several articles, presented nationally and internationally on topics including upper GI cancer, anti-reflux and weight loss surgery. I am the Educational Lead at my Trust and hold University and Postgraduate posts relevant to the training of medical students and future surgeons.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Raj Nijjar at Spire include:
General surgery
Other treatments
I also offer the following treatments: General surgery: laparoscopic surgery, surgery for cancers of the oesophagus and stomach, laparoscopic surgery for gallstones, anti-reflux and gastro-oesophageal reflux treatment and hiatal hernia surgery. In weight loss surgery I offer gastric bypass surgery, sleeve gastrectomy and gastric banding and revisional weight loss procedures.
