I have been practising as a Foot and Ankle Consultant Surgeon at the Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust since February 2014. As I progressed through my higher surgical training in trauma and orthopaedics I realised my interest of specialising in foot and ankle surgery. The foot and ankle are responsible for transmission of almost three times the body weight and need an intricate co-ordination of more than 26 articulations. It makes the specialty very challenging, exciting and inspiring for me. It is an ever evolving specialty, with great clinical and research potential opportunities.

I have completed two well respected foot and ankle fellowships under Mr Ian Winson, Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Bristol, United Kingdom, and under Mr Chris Blundell, Northern General Hospital, Sheffield.

The fellowships have empowered me to attain excellence in foot and ankle surgery including ankle arthroplasty, foot and ankle arthroscopy, minimally invasive foot and ankle trauma and elective surgery, in addition to the basic operations such as hallux valgus (bunion) surgery, flatfoot and cavus foot correction.

I was awarded the BOFAS (British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society) Travelling fellowship to the Sigvard Hansen Foot and Ankle Unit in Seattle, USA – May 2014. I also pursued the AO Trauma Fellowship in Hannover, Germany.

I specialise in general orthopaedic surgery with specific interest in sports injuries, ankle arthroplasty/joint replacement, ankle fusion - arthroscopic, minimally invasive foot surgery, ankle instability surgery, cartilage regeneration for ankle, heel pain, arthritis of foot and ankle, peripheral nerve disease, soft tissue injuries, sports medicine, osteoarthritis, medico-legal, ankle surgery, foot surgery, arthroscopy and sports and exercise medicine.

I have performed over 100 ankle replacements and similar numbers of arthroscopic ankle fusions. I specialise in minimally invasive foot surgery including bunion correction and lesser toe deformity correction. My expertise includes surgical treatment of sports injuries of the foot and ankle, including ankle instability repair/reconstruction and osteochondral injuries of the talar dome treatment. I have corrected dozens of flatfeet and cavus foot deformities with significant improvement in patient reported outcome scores.

I am passionate about training orthopaedic trainees/ medical students and have been voted as the 'Trainer of the Year' in 2017 and 2020. I am the Quality Assurance Lead for the National Orthopaedic Specialist Advisory Committee and a member of the National Orthopaedic Selection Design Group. I am also an Education Committee Member for the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS) and a STC member and Training Lead at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust.
