Specialises in
My major interest and sub-specialisation is cataract, refractive laser and lens surgery and corneal disease. I was appointed in Portsmouth to lead and develop a specialised corneal service and am able to provide all current treatments and techniques in the management of corneal and external eye disease.
I offer routine and complex micro-incisional and femtosecond laser cataract surgery and combine this with the use of premium intraocular lenses. I also specialise in corneal surgery, including full-thickness and lamellar corneal transplantation, collagen cross-linking and laser refractive surgery including LASEK, LASIK, Sulcoflex DUET Lens Exchange and refractive lens exchange.
I was the first to perform the groundbreaking new Sulcoflex DUET Lens Exchange in November 2018. The DUET procedure involves the removal of the natural lens as performed in traditional lens exchange and cataract surgery, but instead of one intra-ocular lens being inserted, two premium lenses are used to restore vision for all distances. This new trifocal multifocal lens technology ensures the safety of complete life-long reversibility should the health of the eye change.
I have also worked as a lecturer and anatomy demonstrator for undergraduate students. I undertook my corneal training with Professor Dua in Nottingham and with the leading consultants at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, where I worked as a corneal and refractive fellow.
Having completed my studies at Manchester University, I trained in surgery before embarking on my ophthalmic training. During this time, I worked at several of the major institutions including the London, Nottingham, Sheffield and Manchester teaching hospitals.
I have many publications in peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals, and regularly chair and present at national and international conferences around the world. I am also an invited guest reviewer for the British Journal of Ophthalmology and Eye, the Royal College journal.
