MD FEBNS FRCS(SN)
I was appointed as a Consultant at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals in 2017. I hold three neurosurgical board certificates, the Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship, the European Board of Neurosurgery and the Egyptian Doctorate in Neurosurgery.
I offer treatment of low back pain, leg pain (sciatica), neck and arm pain due to degenerative spine disease, management of spinal tumours and vascular malformations. The ranges of procedures offered are spinal injections for pain relief, spinal decompressions for canal stenosis, microscopic minimal access cervical and lumbar discectomies, and spinal stabilisation with and without instrumented fusion.
I trained in Complex Spine Surgery at the Cardiff and Vale Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery and Trauma Unit, which is an internationally renowned spinal training centre and recognized AO Spine reference centre. I gained extensive exposure and experience in all aspects of spinal disease from trauma to tumour work through to adult and paediatric spinal deformity. This gave me the unique opportunity of the understanding of spinal pathology from an orthopaedic perspective in addition to my neurosurgical experience.
I graduated from Cairo University in December 1995 excellent with honours, and then underwent comprehensive neurosurgical training before becoming appointed as a consultant at Cairo University neurosurgical department in 2004. I moved to the UK in 2010 and undertook further training in fellowships at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff under Mr Richard Hatfield, Mr Brian Simpson and Mr George Stephenson. This was followed by a Skull Base surgery fellowship at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with Mr Richard Kerr. My Gamma Knife Radiosurgery fellowship training was in Sheffield in 2012 and 2013.
