I am a Consultant Benign Upper GI and General Surgeon specialising in gallstones, reflux disease, motility disorders of the oesophagus, hernias and Upper GI endoscopy.
I have a keen interest in treating hiatal problems including reflux diseases and surgical correctable motility disorders of the oesophagus.
I have done more than 1,000 gallbladder surgeries in my career and have one of the largest series of paraoesophageal hernias in the country.
My current NHS practice is at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, affiliated to Manchester University, where I have been working for the last 13 years. Prior to this I worked as a Bariatric Surgeon for two years 2009-11 in Luton and Dunstable Hospital. I did a post CCT Bariatric Fellowship in Bruge, Belgium in 2008.
I am a Surgical Tutor and Examiner for the Royal College, where I help them for FRCS examinations and conduct advanced laparoscopic surgical courses at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
I have introduced a formal research program in my department. In collaboration with UCLan, I supervise one MD/ PhD student every 2 years. As a recognition of my work, UCLan have offered me a title of Honorary Professor.
