I practice exclusively as a vascular specialist and provide world-class treatment to patients with arterial and venous disease. Being fully qualified in both traditional open vascular surgery and minimally invasive endovascular surgery, I am uniquely positioned to offer patients an unbiased expert opinion on the full range of treatment options available for their circulatory disease.
I graduated from the University of Birmingham and completed my specialist training in vascular surgery in Birmingham, being admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 2011. I was awarded a British Society of Endovascular Therapists (BSET) scholarship in 2011 during which I undertook post-certification specialist training in endovascular therapies including peripheral angioplasty and endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR). I was appointed as a consultant vascular and endovascular surgeon at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust in 2012.
I am widely regarded as a national expert in peripheral arterial disease and limb salvage surgery and am regularly invited to lecture at national and international meetings. I am the Clinical Director for the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust Vascular Limb Salvage (VaLS) Service and pioneered the Vascular Limb Salvage Academy and was awarded ‘Most Inspiring Role Model’ by the University Hospitals of Leicester in 2018.
I have a strong interest and track record in surgical education and was awarded a Master’s degree in Medical Education (MMed Sci) from the University of Nottingham for research in the field of leg bypass surgery. I was appointed as an honorary senior lecturer in medical education at the University of Leicester in 2014 and Director of the Clinical Simulation Centre (SC@LE) at the University of Leicester. Formerly Training Programme Director for vascular surgery, I am currently a member of the Board of Examiners for the FRCS Vascular Surgery and the UK Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) for Vascular Surgery.
I have an extensive research portfolio and have published more than 30 scientific articles in peer reviewed journals and 10 book chapters in the field of vascular surgery. I was awarded a Medical Doctorate in surgery (MD) from the University of Birmingham for research in the field of endovascular (keyhole) aortic aneurysm surgery. I am involved in a number of national and international clinical trials, ensuring my patients have access to the latest information and technologies relevant to their circulatory disease.
Myself and three fellow vascular surgeons (Mr Gregory McMahon, Mr Harjeet Rayt, Mr Tryfon Vainas) provide specialist vascular and endovascular services in the private sector at Circulation Clinic. Our team working model of care allows our patients to benefit from the experience and expertise of four leading vascular surgeons; all complex arterial and venous cases are discussed within our multidisciplinary team (MDT) and managed within a collaborative working environment, including dual consultant operating lists, ensuring our clients are offered the best treatment available.
