Mr Robert Warr

Consultant Plastic Surgeon

MB BS, FRCS, FRCS (Plas), MD

I am a successful and established consultant plastic surgeon who has been working in Bristol and Gloucestershire for 14 years.

I am dedicated to providing the highest standard of care to every reconstructive surgery patient in my care. I pride myself on the personal relationship I develop with my patients knowing that the trust and confidence you have in your surgeon is vital to a patient’s peace of mind throughout their surgical journey. Safety and wellbeing are always my top priority. I understand that the goals and motivations for undergoing any cosmetic procedure may be complex and that me getting to know my patients is the key to success.

Your first consultation is an opportunity to get to know your surgeon and for me to get to know you. You will have ample time to talk through your motivations and goals. You will receive an open and honest opinion regarding your suitability for surgery and advice on whether the procedure you are considering is the best procedure for you. Patients find my approach to be relaxed, friendly, holistic and informative.

Born and brought up in Bristol, I hold undergraduate and postgraduate medical degrees from Southampton and Bristol University. My specialist plastic surgical training was gained in London and Paris. While in London I specialised in cosmetic, craniofacial and oculoplastic surgery at Chelsea and Westminster, Charing Cross and the Cromwell Hospitals. In Paris I spent nine months at the Curie Institute specialising in breast surgery. During this time I was trained in the most advanced techniques in aesthetic surgery. Over the past 14 years as a consultant, I have built upon this foundation to gain extensive experience in all areas of aesthetic surgery.

Within the NHS, I have a broad specialist interest but much of my work is in complex breast surgery, abdominal and pelvic reconstruction and post weight loss surgery. I operate regularly with the breast cancer teams at Southmead Hospital and the colorectal and gynaecology teams at the Bristol Royal infirmary. When on call for trauma, my primary interest is in soft tissue facial and nasal trauma. It is a feature, therefore, that I can mirror my primary cosmetic interests of abdominoplasty, post weight loss surgery, breast surgery and gynaecological surgery in my NHS work. This relatively unusual situation has resulted simply from a passion in these specific fields and a realisation that sub-specialisation is key to obtaining the best possible outcomes.

I have an extensive track record in publications and innovation. I am widely published and have supervised several PhDs. In 1995 I received the Royal College of Surgeons ‘Patten and Masser award’ for my research into the molecular biology of Malignant Melanoma. I have spoken as an invited guest at international conferences, most recently as a key note speaker in the Pan Asian International Breast Cancer Conference in 2016. I am a senior lecturer at Bristol University and run a Royal College Recognised Surgical Training Course annually.

When undertaking cosmetic surgery, the look I aim to achieve is always natural and fresh. I focus heavily on the care you receive pre- and post-operatively, to optimise the outcome of your surgery and provide you with a smooth recovery after your procedure. I believe that availability is an essential part of my popularity with patients. I have learnt, for example, that my patients value being reviewed in person the day after surgery. Equally, that many questions arise in the days and weeks after surgery and so I arrange dressing appointments to coincide with my clinics. Furthermore, even if patients need reassurances further down the line, all follow-up appointments, even if many years later, are not charged for.
