BSc (Hons), MBBS, FRCOphth
I am a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and over the past 12 years have developed a passion and expertise in the comprehensive medical and surgical management of adults and children with eye complaints in particular cataracts, squints and neuro ophthalmology.
I perform small incision cataract surgery for routine and complex cases and offer patients the option of premium intraocular lenses to help them adapt to their relevant lifestyles, aiming to achieve spectacle independence. In my paediatric practice I undertake squint surgery for children of all ages, perform procedures to help relieve watery eyes in the very young and also lid and brow lesion removal.
To date I have performed in excess of 3,000 surgical procedures and as well as a surgical approach to care I am a firm believer in medical management for some cases. I use botulinum toxin injections to help manage squints in children and adults as well as the treatment of twitching eyelids (myokymia and blepharospasm) and the face (hemifacial spasm).
Squint surgery has developed over the years and it is important to adapt to these changes. I thus offer fornix based small incision surgery as well as the option of surgery with adjustable sutures so as to provide more predictable post operative results. In my adult practice I also perform lid and brow lesion removal, chalazion incision and drainage, YAG capsulotomy for posterior capsular opacification as well as YAG laser for narrow angle glaucoma risk patients.
I graduated from University College London and as well as my medical degree received a First with honours in Neurosciences and laid the foundation for my interest in neurological and motility related problems within Ophthalmology.
I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a member of the British and Irish Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Association, and British Emergency Eyecare Society.
My role as Clinical Service Lead for Ophthalmology at the Royal Free entails providing and coordinating care across the North Central London network to ensure that patients are treated safely and in a timely manner and colleagues are supported. I provide a service at Spire Bushey Hospital for the urgent review and management of eye emergencies, having been a locum consultant in emergency eye care at Moorfields, and truly understand the importance of patients accessing emergency care close to home.
I have a passion for teaching and am an active trainer of junior surgeons, medical students and nurses, continuously receiving positive feedback from my colleagues about the impact I have on their development as clinicians. I am frequently involved in the education of clinicians in primary care as well as those within the hospital as I am a firm believer that knowledge is power and by empowering colleagues, it helps to expand the workforce available to look after patients.
In my free time I enjoy time with my children and wife and believe health is wealth, thus partaking in walks in the countryside, cycling and trying to keep up with my children in many sports. My belief of staying healthy has led me to pursue research into the nutritional benefits of many food sources and in particular for healthy eyes and vision.
My colleagues and patients describe me as a friendly, approachable, safe and empathetic individual who takes real passion in all I do and provide the highest standards. My experiences have shaped me into a clinician that listens to his patients, understands each person has different needs, and tailors care that is specific to that individual. I am here to look after your eyes and wellbeing.
