I am an experienced Consultant Urological Surgeon, specialising in the treatment of all common urological problems, including male urinary/prostatic symptoms (Benign Prostate Hyperplasia or BPH), investigations for incontinence and cystitis/UTIs in women, ED, Kidney stones, and common penile and scrotal problems. I specialise in the diagnosis of important urological cancers, including prostate cancer/raised PSA, haematuria (blood in urine), bladder, testicular and kidney cancers.

I specialise in all common urological procedures such cystoscopy and bladder biopsies/procedures (TURBT), penile and scrotal surgery (eg circumcision, vasectomy, hydrocoele repair), surgery for BPH including TURP and the renowned, minimally invasive UroLift procedure. I also specialise in surgery to large kidney stones, such as rigid and flexible ureteroenoscopy with laser fragmentation, as well as Percutaneous Stone Surgery (PCNL).

I have served as Clinical Director for Urology at the Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust between 2012 and 2020, responsible for developing and expanding the unit consultant workforce and introducing novel technologies. Finally, I was the urology lead on the Hospital Medical Advisory Committee at BMI South Cheshire Private Hospital.

In addition to my clinical work, I have a passion for urological teaching and training and currently serve as Training Programme Director for urological surgery in the region. I am also an honorary senior lecturer responsible for coordinating teaching for one of the educational modules in the regional masters programme in urology. I have previously been nominated for the North West Surgical Trainer of the Year, and runner up for Regional Urology Trainer of the Year and Trust Educational Supervisor of the Year.

In 2021, I was successfully appointed onto the Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) in Urology (the national body that runs Urological Training in the UK, and part of the Joint Committee on Surgical Training). I am also on the interview panel for National Selection of Specialty Trainees, carried out annually, and sit on the question-setting panel for the Part 1 of the FRCS(Urol).

As a consultant, I am heavily involved as an expert panel member at national and international surgical simulation courses to help surgical trainees develop their skills, for example: The Urology Boot Camp, The National Midlands Ureteroscopy Course, International Endoluminal Endourology Masterclass, BAUS Cadaveric Core Urological Surgical Skills course and Anatomy courses, Northwest Ureteroscopy course, Royal College of Surgeons of England Operative Skills course in urology.

After graduating from the University of Glasgow, I went on to complete my pre-registration training at the Professorial Units of Surgery and Medicine in Glasgow, before entering basic surgical training in the West of Scotland. After completing my MD thesis, I entered higher surgical training in the North West (Manchester) in 2010, before taking up my first consultant post in Blackpool Teaching Hospitals.
