"From the day I first arrived at the Spire Nottingham I have been warmly welcomed. This goes hand in hand with the provision of excellent care, which means I can give the best service to patients."
Specialises in
Virtual consultations:
I am a Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Major Trauma with a special interest in treating post-traumatic facial deformities, which can range from scar management through to complex bone and soft tissue injuries that require bespoke treatment. This may include correcting the position of the bone (an osteotomy) or using custom made implants, but I make sure to focus on what is important for the person rather than just concentrating on the injury.
I provide the full range of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, which includes looking after people that require tooth extraction (including wisdom teeth), have lesions in or around the mouth that might require removal, salivary stones and other jaw and face related problems. I regularly see people with facial pain, mouth ulcers, lichen planus (characterised by red or white patches in the lining of the mouth) and other conditions related to Oral Medicine. I see children that may need to have teeth removed or exposed for Orthodontic or other reasons and those with tongue ties.
For complex craniofacial deformities secondary to trauma (or other causes), I utilise the latest technology in 3D planning, 3D modelling and virtual surgery to provide the best outcome for patients.
I was appointed as a consultant at Nottingham University Hospitals in January 2021 after completing my specialist training in the East Midlands, and then undertook a nationally appointed TIG (Training Interface Group) Fellowship in Major Trauma from 2019 to 2020 followed by an AO International CranioMaxilloFacial Surgery Fellowship in Basel, Switzerland, also in 2020.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Rory O'Connor at Spire include:

I like nothing more than spending time with my wife and twin boy and girl along with our dog and often travel to the North Norfolk coast for family breaks by the sea. When I have time I am an enthusiastic runner, and have raised money by running the London Marathon in the past, and next year I have signed up to do a Half Iron Man event.
