Specialises in
I am a consultant pancreatico-biliary and general surgeon working at St James's University Hospital. I have been a Consultant Surgeon since 2020.
I have a strong interest in conditions affecting the pancreas and gallbladder and undertake laparoscopic and open operations for these. My other specialist area of interest is abdominal wall hernia surgery including groin (inguinal and femoral), umbilical, epigastric and incisional hernias. I also offer surgery for recurrent hernias.
I believe in delivering high-quality patient centred care and will take time to discuss the risks and benefits of potential treatments with you, to help you make an informed decision tailored to your individual needs.
I qualified from Liverpool medical school in 2006 and undertook post graduate training in Liverpool, Leeds and the South West of England. I have a strong track record in research. I was awarded a Docorate of Medicine degree and have been a National Institute for Health Research Clinical Lecturer for four years.
Currently, I am the principal investigator for two national studies investigating pancreatic cancer and recruit to several national trials. I have published over 70 papers and 2 book chapters. I have also secured over £10 million of research funding.
I am a council member of the Association of Upper GI Surgery of the UK and Ireland (AUGIS) and Chair their Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee. I also have a strong interest in training the next generation of surgeons and am on Great Britain and Ireland HPB Association (GBIHPBA) committee as the training lead.
Previously I have been the associate surgical speciality lead for liver and pancreas cancer research with the Royal College of Surgeons of England/AUGIS.
