I have been a Consultant Urological Surgeon for seven years. Having developed the renal laparoscopy service in Southend, I became Clinical Lead for urology and more recently, Clinical Director for surgery. I am Chairman of the Essex Urology Group and have a keen interest in training as well as management.
My clinical practice covers all aspects of 'general and core urology'. This encompassed all diagnostic tests for conditions affecting the kidneys, bladder, prostate and genitals. I have specialist expertise in the management of kidney stones and kidney cancers.
Over the years, I have performed countless prostate operations and operations for bladder tumours. As a specialist in kidney stones, I see over 50 patients a month in such clinics. Having mentored my colleagues in keyhole kidney surgery, I have performed over 300 kidney operations, the outcomes of which are available via the BAUS website.
Managerial positions I hold are: Clinical Lead for Urology, Clinical Director for Surgery, Chairman of the Essex Urology Group, Member of the Training Program Management Group (formerly STC) for Urological Training on the NE Thames rotation. I have sat on the panel representing urology at the Spire Wellesley MAC.
I welcome appropriate patients wishing to refer and pay for treatment themselves without the need for a GP letter of referral.
Feedback from my patients at Spire Wellesley Hospital:
'We attended our first appointment with Mr Sampi Mehta (urologist) on the evening of 1 November. We were a little nervous as his profile picture made him look somewhat austere. However, when we met him we found him to be such a very charming man who quickly put us at our ease. We were confident that he immediately had a grasp of the issue which he explained and showed us carefully and clearly on the scans which my husband had had. The way forward was discussed and agreed and my husband and I left feeling very reassured and more than pleased that we had decided to have a consultation with him'.
October 2021: 'After discovering I had bladder cancer a year ago, Mr Mehta has been amazing! Due to his prompt and thorough treatment he removed the cancer with a TURBT, and due to his diligence after my last three month check, he noticed a small area which again he dealt with very promptly. During my time with Mr Mehta I found him to be really reassuring, kind and professional. I have never felt worried as he explains everything in a very clear manner. For anyone else going through any treatment I would highly recommend Mr Mehta, as I feel they could be confident in everything he does'.
