Mr Sanjeev Anand

I am a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Leeds specialising in knee surgery and hip arthroscopy. As a surgeon practicing at a tertiary referral centre, a major part of my practice involves managing complex problems referred from colleagues and neighbouring hospitals.

I treat all aspects of knee problems from sporting injuries to the arthritic knees. I am a recognised expert in treating anterior cruciate ligament injuries and led a working group which wrote national guidelines on ACL reconstruction "Best Practice Book for management of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injuries". I have extensive experience in dealing with complex knee injuries, requiring reconstruction of multiple injured structures in the knee joint. My surgical approach is to preserve joint surface and meniscus to maximise function. I am part of the group which developed national guidelines for arthroscopic knee surgery. I am the only surgeon in Leeds who regularly treats paediatric knee problems both in the NHS and in the private sector. If an arthritic joint cannot be preserved, I offer a range of knee replacement options using latest techniques including robotic surgery.

I have a special interest in meniscal preservation surgery in young adults and have regularly presented my results at various meetings. I have extensive experience in hip arthoscopic surgery, to deal with selected groin pain conditions and trochanteric bursitis.

I hold weekly acute knee injury clinics at Spire Leeds Hospital and within the NHS to ensure prompt and optimum treatment for often missed injuries.

I trained in Orthopaedics in London, Manchester and Leeds. Upon completion of my UK orthopaedic training, I undertook Specialist Surgical Fellowship training in arthroplasty and sports injuries in Australia. I am a trainer for arthroscopy skills and regularly conduct workshops for orthopaedic trainees. I am a founder member and academic chair for International Society for Knowledge for Surgeons on Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty (ISKSAA) and am editor-in-chief of Journal of Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery. I regularly get invited to present my research work at various national and international meetings. I have published widely on various knee and hip topics and have contributed with chapters in books.
