I am an NHS Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon with specialist expertise in the management of breast conditions, breast cancer and reconstruction. My NHS practice is based at New Cross Wolverhampton and I offer breast services to patients primarily in the West Midlands partnering with Spire Parkway Solihull. I trained at Royal Free and University College London and then undertook further postgraduate training in London and the West Midlands. I have undertaken specialist training in breast cancer and reconstructive surgery including the prestigious National Oncoplastic Breast Fellowship regarded as the gold standard for breast reconstructive training in the UK. This fellowship is restricted by competition to a select few breast and plastic surgeons each year.
I have extensive experience in the use of breast implants for reconstruction, from textured to polyurethane coated implants, which can provide greater resistance to radiotherapy. I have extensively used a variety of biological meshes in my NHS practice to assist implant based breast reconstruction including the use of a new mesh which does not require the need of muscle to be used to cover the implant. I am also trained in lipomodelling (fat grafting) which can form an important part of breast reconstruction to get optimum results.
I am passionate about continuing to improve personal and UK practice in breast surgery through scientific analysis and endeavour. To this end I have been and continue to be a member of national steering groups coordinating multi-centre trials and studies.
Within my NHS practice I manage a variety of patients presenting with benign and malignant breast conditions. My breast cancer work involves treating both patients identified through breast screening and those who presented with a lump or symptoms.
I am the breast services clinical governance lead at Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust, responsible for the quality assurance of the care patients receive from the breast service. I am the Royal College of Surgeons Tutor for Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust. My responsibilities include the quality and delivery of training to junior surgeons in all surgical specialties, providing mentoring and pastoral support for surgical trainees and surgical trainers. I am a member of the West Midlands breast expert advisory group involved in quality assurance of care provided by breast services across the West Midlands.
