MB BS, FRCS, MD, RAMC
I am a Consultant Surgeon at Sunderland Royal Hospital since 2006. I provide private practice surgery at Spire Washington Hospital. I am trained in hepato-pancreato-biliary, laparoscopic bariatric surgery and anti-reflux surgery. I have trained and performed weight loss surgery and now teach as a faculty team member at bariatric courses. I have been to various bariatric units based in Frankfurt, Oslo and Bruges, Baghdad, Kuwait and India. I was invited to help setting up the bariatric units in both Iraq and Kuwait in the past.
I perform laparoscopic, gastric bypass surgery, mini gastric bypass (OAGB) surgery, gastric sleeve resections and gastric balloon insertion for surgical management of obesity. I have also performed revisional and conversions weight loss procedures (like band to bypass/sleeve operations). My other interests include pancreato-biliary surgery, gallstone and laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery. I have performed over 2,150 bariatric procedures and I am in the top 10 percentile of bariatric surgeons in the UK (NBSR Data). My surgery outcomes are available at the National Bariatric Surgery Registry.
I have extensively published and presented at various national and international journals and conferences. I am a member of the Association of Upper GI Surgeons, the Pancreatic Society, British Medical Association, British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS) and International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO). I am also a commissioned officer in the Army Reserves and have been previously deployed in conflict zones.
I am a tutor at bariatric courses and am on the editorial board of bariatric journals. I am involved in the Northern Deanery as a Associate Foundation Programme Director conducting training courses abroad for foreign trainees.
