Mr Shwan Amin

Consultant General Surgeon

MB ChB, FRCS (Eng), FRCS (Gen Surg)

I have been a Consultant General Surgeon in Sheffield since 2000. I treat all aspects of colorectal surgery including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, haemorrhoids, fistula and fissure surgery. I have a specialist interest in the management of colorectal cancer and advanced robotic and laparoscopic colorectal surgery. I also have an interest in hernia surgery and offers laparoscopic (keyhole) hernia surgery for all different types of hernia.

My primary interest is the management of colorectal cancer. I established Sheffield as a centre for laparoscopic and robotic colorectal cancer surgery and provide the regional service for early rectal cancer surgery using trans-anal endoscopic microsurgery. This technique allows the removal of early rectal cancer and spares the patient the need for a stoma (colostomy).

I am a national and European Trainer in Robotic Colorectal Cancer Surgery and have one of the largest colorectal cancer workload in the UK.

I am a Consultant General Surgeon at the Northern General Hospital and Royal Hallamshire Hospital. I am the lead clinician for colon and rectal cancer services at the Sheffield NHS Teaching Hospitals. I use new techniques in the management of anal fistula disease, parastomal hernia repair and published in the field of colorectal surgery.
