I am a Consultant Weight Loss and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon providing the full range of weight loss surgery and specialist keyhole surgery (hernias, gallbladders and anti-reflux surgery). I see and treat patients with gallstone disease and hernias and provide keyhole approaches with fast recovery and minimal downtime. An enhanced recovery and patient experience and the two most important elements of my service.
I studied at the University of Cambridge and won prizes for academic excellence (top first in my year). I was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at East Surrey Hospital in February 2014 and perform complex and robotic procedures for gallstones and hernia patients. Keyhole techniques are such that open surgery is now a rarity.
I lead the multidisciplinary weight loss surgery team comprised of specialist nurses, a dietitian and a psychotherapist and I strongly believe that this team approach offers the best outcome for patients. I am immensely proud of the weight loss surgery outcomes that we achieve at Spire Gatwick Park Hospital.
I am widely published in the keyhole surgery field and most recently won a national prize at The Association of Surgeons of Great Britain meeting. I have a particular interest in patient safety and designed a national protocol for emergency doctors to look after post-operative patients.
Patient experience and excellent outcomes are what drives me. I was awarded the “Your Care Matters” award by my NHS Trust in 2015 for consistent high standards and high levels of patient satisfaction.
I collect patient feedback via iWantGreatCare. This is important to allow me to reflect on my offering and put the patient at the centre of their care pathway. I have regular weekly operating lists and clinics at Spire Gatwick Park and can provide ad-hoc appointments, in person or virtual, to suit the requirements of the patient.
