Specialises in
I am a Consultant Ophthalmic & Oculoplastic Surgeon at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust in Cambridge.
My practice covers all general ophthalmology but my special interests are small incision cataract surgery, oculoplastic surgery including ptosis, entropion/ectropion, eyelid reconstruction following tumour excision, the surgical rehabilitation of thyroid eye disease and tear duct or lacrimal surgery (including by an endoscopic approach).
I have a keen interest in cosmetic eyelid and facial surgery and offer non-surgical facial treatments such as Botox and fillers. I am able to offer lower lid cosmetic surgery via a transconjunctival internal approach avoiding any external scarring and I have a particular special interest and experience in re-do eye surgery following unsatisfactory results elsewhere.
I graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School, London in 1991. I then trained in general medicine, general surgery and emergency medicine before starting specialisation in Ophthalmology in 1994. Most of my training has been in London teaching hospitals and includes four years subspecialty training as a fellow in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery with two years at Moorfields Eye Hospital and a further two years at The Western Eye Hospital, London.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Simon Woodruff at Spire include:
