I specialise in surgery on the spine, undertaking regular procedures from the top of the neck to the bottom of the spine. This includes spine injections, disc prolapse surgery, spine fusion procedures (including minimally invasive surgery) as well as spine deformity and spine tumours.
After completing my Orthopaedic specialist training in 2020, I have undertaken specialist spine training in three specialist units: The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and Ipswich Hospital Spine Unit.
I have completed an additional doctorate in spine research and have an active participation in national research projects and collaborations, constantly striving to better the care for my patients. I am the lead on a regional spinal cord injury transformation project, bringing care closer to home and improving spinal cord injury management throughout the region. I am the current governance lead for the orthopaedic department at the Norfolk and Norwich highlighting my focus on patient safety and quality care.
My established NHS practice includes the use of injections to ease pain, microdiscectomy and spine fusions. I regularly operate on the neck to relieve arm pains and for compression of the spinal cord. I also have a regular practice in children spine curvature (scoliosis). My specialist training gives me particular experience in tumours involving the spine as well as operating on the low back from the front (through the abdomen).
My philosophy involves close working with all members of the multidisciplinary team, with the patient at the centre of everything we do. I use a combination of clear explanations, demonstration of the scans and written information to give patients the information to be able to make an informed decision that is right for them and their circumstances.
I am the governance lead for trauma and orthopaedic surgery at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital as well as being the lead consultant for spinal cord injury, leading transformation of the service across Norfolk and Waveney.

Personal profile
I have young children and dogs. And we enjoy getting out into the countryside as much as possible.
I have a keen interest in rugby, and while I no longer play, I am a qualified coach. Rugby instilled a culture of respect, dedication teamwork and inclusion into my childhood, shaping many of the positive attributes of my professional life.
An injury while playing introduced me to orthopaedic surgery. This experience allows me to empathise with people with a real understanding of what it is like to be in pain but also what an impact pain and loss of function can have. I understand that sometimes it is the loss of the simplest enjoyments (such as a walk with loved ones) that can have the biggest difference on quality of life, and I aim to work with patients to improve what I can to bring that quality back to as high a level as possible.
