I am a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon with an expertise in colon/ rectal cancer and Peritoneal Malignancy based at Solihull & Good Hope Hospitals, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.
My practice involves in treatment of a wide range of conditions general surgical, colorectal and proctology including hernias, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), haemorrhoids (piles), fistula, fissure and pilonidal disease. I am an experienced open and laparoscopic surgeon trained in minimal access (keyhole) surgery for appendix, colon and rectal cancer.
I am also a JAG-accredited colonoscopist, and regularly perform diagnostic and therapeutic flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy.
I have a specialist interest in the surgical treatment of patients with peritoneal metastasis (spread) from primary and recurrent appendix and colorectal tumours.
I was the senior Peritoneal Malignancy and Pseudomyxoma fellow at the internationally renowned Basingstoke Peritoneal Malignancy Institute and Mount Sina Hospital Canada, trained in the highly specialised techniques of Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) and heated intra-peritoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) to treat conditions including advanced appendiceal tumours, primary and recurrent colorectal peritoneal metastases, Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) and mesothelioma. During this time, I completed certification in the ESPSO (European Peritoneal Surface Oncology) programme. I am also trained in the novel intraperitoneal chemotherapy delivery technique known as PIPAC (Pressurised intraperitoneal aerosolised chemotherapy).
My primary concern is the patient with the primary aim of delivering a first class service with through consultation to any treatment which may be required. A professional, evidence-based patient-centred approach is at the heart of his practice.
I have been a member of colorectal teams receiving two UHB trust ‘Best in Clinical Care’ Building Healthier Lives awards in 2018 and 2019.Â
