Specialises in
I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist based at Guys and St Thomas' Hospital NHS trust. I have a particular expertise in modern LASER and phakoemulsification cataract surgery, including implantation of multifocal and toric intraocular lens implants to improve astigmatism and presbyopia, which results in spectacle independence both for distance and near for many patients. My special interests include cosmetic oculoplastic surgery of the eyelids and surrounding structures including surgery of the tear drainage system. I also have experience in managing blepharitis and dry eyes with the most up to date treatments available.
I specialise in cataract surgery (micro incision cataract surgery in complex cases, phacoemulsification, laser cataract surgery), refractive approach to cataract surgery(toric lenses, multifocal lenses) and monovision. I also specialise in oculoplastic and aesthetic surgery, eyelid surgery, lacrimal (tear duct) surgery for watery eyes, minor plastic surgery procedures such as the removal of moles and skin tags and eyelid lesions, blepharospasm, thyroid eye disease, orbital diseases and surgery, eye socket surgery, peri-ocular tumour management and reconstructive surgery. I also treat external eye diseases (keratoconus, collagen cross linking, dry eye and Sjogren’s syndrome) and skin-related ocular surface problems (ocular rosacea, allergic eye disease, Pterygium).
I have performed more than 5,000 cataract surgeries and my patient satisfaction and surgical outcomes are better than the national database. I provide personalised care to my patients.
I am responsible for the management of the eye emergency service at St Thomas' Hospital, 2016, collaborating with colleagues in primary care to implement protocols for the management of patients and responsibility for care of all patients attending the eye emergency service.
I participate in meetings and liaise with the CEAC representative to discuss various issues, ie; audits, risk management, education and training issues. I also provide guidance to trainees in conjunction with the audit department and report back to regular trainee committee meetings with findings and minutes.
I participate in regular workshops on ‘The NHS in England, Financial management in the NHS Leadership and Management, relationship between managers and clinicians, Service Development.’
I lead many quality improvement audits and research projects involving clinicians, managers, medical records and clinical governance committees. I also supervise and train junior staff and lead the clinical audit programme.
