I am a consultant general surgeon and breast surgeon, with special interest in the prompt diagnosis of breast symptoms and management of breast cancer. My NHS practice is at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals, and I conduct my private practice from the clean and comfortable surroundings of Spire Hartswood Hospital.
I graduated from the University of Cape Town in South Africa and trained as a general surgeon and oncoplastic breast surgeon in London, with senior registrar posts at the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead and Broomfield Hospital in Essex.
My clinical practice encompasses both breast and general surgery. My breast practice focuses on the rapid diagnosis of breast symptoms in both women and men, and the management of breast cancer using the most up to date techniques. This enables me to use minimally invasive surgery and breast conservation, often done as a day stay procedure. I am a strong advocate of immediate reconstruction wherever possible for patients requiring mastectomy utilizing a full range of reconstructive techniques and in combination with a plastic surgeon. I have particular interest in screening for breast cancer and family history of breast cancer. My general surgery practice encompasses laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, gallbladder surgery, hernia repair, lymph node biopsy and removal of lumps and skin lesions. My approach is sensitive, unhurried, calm and reassuring, but using a strong evidence base to underpin my practice. I investigate thoroughly and methodically prior to any surgery. I believe the best results are achieved through multidisciplinary management, and all cancer treatments are delivered using the skills of a full multidisciplinary team.

I have presented my prize-winning research both nationally and internationally. I maintain scientific, research and teaching interests, and am a proponent of evidence based medicine.
My research focuses on the minimally invasive treatment of breast cancer. I have published widely in high quality academic journals on breast cancer including sentinel node biopsy, intraoperative diagnosis, novel technology, surgical training and gynaecomastia.
