"I chose Spire for my practice because of the warmth and friendliness of the staff, from the front of house to the back office, I knew my patients would be well looked after and have a great experience."
My day job is as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon, with a full-time NHS position at Whiston Hospital in Merseyside. I am registered and licensed with The General Medical Council and on their Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery.
After four years of postgraduate medical and surgical training as a doctor, I spent a further eight years in training specifically in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery. I secured a Fellowship following my training at the prestigious Princess Margaret Cancer Hospital in Toronto Canada, the third largest cancer hospital worldwide, honing my skills in major resections of head and neck cancer and complex reconstruction, utilising tissue taken from other parts of the body and used to rebuild the face.
In my NHS practice I specialise in skin cancers of the Head and Neck and in the management of patients with facial paralysis. For reconstruction I specialise in free tissue transfer, where tissue from other parts of the body is reconnected in its blood supply using a microscope to reconstruct the face. I also use this technique to rejoin branches of the facial nerve for the treatment of facial paralysis. These skills allow me to be very comfortable operating in the facial area. My training has also included two cosmetic surgery fellowships in Bristol and the North West, leaving me well equipped in aesthetic surgery in all areas of the body.
As a Senior Clinical Lecturer at The University of Liverpool I supervise medical students researching the use of technology to improve the reliability of microsurgical free tissue transfer for soft tissue reconstruction. At Whiston Hospital I approve and supervise the Audit projects which go on within the plastic surgery department. Clinical Audit is paramount in any surgical practice as it ensures we are always working towards achieving the highest standards of clinical care.
I am passionate about the artistic nature of surgery, but realistic and honest with regards to its limitations. As a lady surgeon my goal is to ensure you are comfortable with the surgical choices that we will make together and that you achieve your desired appearance.
