Clinical Specialist Women’s and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist

MCSP, HCPC, Full Member of POGP (Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy)

I am a Clinical Specialist Women’s and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist with over 25 years of experience working in the NHS. I have worked at Spire Gatwick Park Hospital, in a part time physiotherapy consultancy capacity, for over 12 years.

I trained at Guys Hospital, London, and completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Continence in 1997 leading to full membership of POGP, the specialist society for physiotherapists working in this specific field. Having worked as a Physiotherapy Pelvic Health Team Lead, within a large university teaching hospital I have continued to develop my clinical professional development with regular involvement in POGP meetings, and training sessions for physiotherapists, midwives and medics.

I recognise that patients "put off" coming forward for pelvic health treatment with many waiting up to 10 years before they feel able to seek help. I can honestly say that the phrase I hear all too frequently is "I just wish I had come sooner!" It is never too late to address bladder, bowel and prolapse symptoms.

As a POG Physiotherapist I feel it is so very important to address musculoskeletal and pelvic floor dysfunction as soon as possible, no matter what stage you have reached in your life. Having a baby, recovering from childbirth or surgery, wanting to exercise more, a new relationship and menopause may all offer challenges that can be helped by pelvic floor treatment.

Understanding your condition is so important in helping you manage your symptoms. Your initial assessment, which takes approximately an hour, will involve explanation and education that is relevant to you. Exercise programmes are tailored to your individual needs following a physical assessment. POG physiotherapy offers a pelvic floor assessment so you can be sure you are exercising your pelvic floor muscles correctly.
