Mrs Helena Edlin

Having worked as a Clinical Vascular Scientist since 1996, I bring a wealth of experience and expertise in clinical practice, educational delivery, service development, and professional leadership. My priorities are to deliver high-quality care and excellent patient experiences. I am a Fellow of the College and Society of Vascular Science and am registered with the Academy of Healthcare Science.

I work for East Cheshire NHS Trust where I specialise in performing diagnostic vascular ultrasound scans including all peripheral arterial and venous anatomy. This includes assessing the arteries in the arms/legs/feet, abdomen and head and neck to detect and quantify any arterial narrowing, assessing varicose veins to determine where the valves have stopped functioning prior to treatment, deep venous assessments to detect the presence of blood clot (DVT), Aneurysm screening and surveillance, contrast enhanced ultrasound and haemodialysis AV fistula assessments.

My commitment to professional excellence is reflected in my longstanding involvement with key professional committees and networks within the field. I have an academic interest in many areas but most recently in assessing clot stiffness using shear wave elastography which I hope will help support a more personalised approach to the treatment of blood clots in the future.

I am particularly proud of my recent success in winning the 2024 College and Society of Vascular Science ‘Scientist of the year’ award and a ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award at the 2025 Northwest Healthcare Science award for my contributions to the profession, particularly my involvement in the education and development of future generations.
