"Spire facilities are excellent and supportive staff who are always happy to see you. Every request is met with a smile and swift response."
I am a registered paediatric dietitian with more than 20 years' experience at Southampton Children's Hospital, specialising in gastroenterology and food allergies. I am professionally trained and qualified to assess, diagnose and treat nutrition related conditions from birth to 18 years. Using the latest evidence and consensus guidelines, I provide an individually tailored dietary plan for the following medical conditions; food allergies including cow's milk allergy, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, anaemia, constipation, coeliac disease and faltering growth.
Due to popular demand from parents, referring GPs and hospital consultants, I have now established a unique gastro-allergy paediatric dietetic service at the Spire Southampton Hospital working with Professor Mark Beattie and Dr Akshay Batra, consultant paediatric gastroenterologists and Dr Mich Lajeunesse, consultant paediatric allergist and immunologist. I am also the paediatric dietetic advisor to children's services for Spire hospitals around the UK.
In addition to my clinical work, I am also proud to be the dietetic representative of the Research Working Group within the British Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. My research interests include non-IgE food allergies and Inflammatory Bowel Disease and I have been asked to present my research at many national and international conferences including the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mrs Joan Gavin at Spire include:

I enjoy spending time with my husband, two teenage boys and our dog, Lucy. Juggling motherhood with running my own business can be challenging at times but is a truly rewarding and enjoyable experience.
