I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist experienced in all aspects of Ophthalmology with a specific interest in medical retina diseases including diabetes, macular degeneration, uveitis and retinal genetics.
I specialise in general ophthalmology and have a specialist interest in medical retina. This includes diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, central serous retinopathy, retinal genetics and other bleeding conditions at the back of the eye.
I have performed cataract surgery procedures, laser procedures (including retinal laser and yag laser) and injections into and around the eye of steroids and VEGF treatments such as Lucentis, Eylea and Avastin for retinal conditions.
To date, I have performed over 2,000 cataract surgeries, over 2,000 retinal and yag laser procedures and over 5,000 injections into and around the eye.
I am the retinal genetics lead in my department and I also oversee and triage patients with all eye conditions from the second biggest eye casualty department in the UK.
Following medical school at Birmingham University, I underwent Ophthalmology training in the West Midlands Deanery. I completed a three-year specialist fellowship and PhD at the Oxford Deanery based at the John Radcliffe Hospital. I studied the impact of eye disease on sleep/wake patterns for my PhD which was awarded by the University College London and Oxford University in 2018. I was previously a locum Medical Retina and Uveitis Consultant at Queen Elizabeth, University Hospitals Birmingham.
