I have been a Consultant Ophthalmologist for seven years and an expert in challenging medical retina cases. I have a specialist interest in interpreting various imaging modalities such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), autofluorescence, multicolor imaging, fundus fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green angiography.
I regularly see and treat patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV), central serous chorioretinopathy, vascular disorders including diabetic macular edema, inflammatory, genetic conditions and tumors.
To date, I have performed over 10,000 intravitreal injections of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and steroids implant for retinal conditions. Based on the work I published I rank in the top 2% of medical retinal specialists in the world.
In addition to ophthalmology, I have a special interest in facial and anti wrinkle assessment.
I am a graduate of the University of Messina School of Medicine and Surgery, Italy. I completed my Ophthalmology residency at the University of Palermo in Italy. I received a scholarship, research and clinical grant from the Italian Ministry of University and Scientific Research. I spent part of my education and research at Wills Eye Hospital, Pennsylvania, USA and at Allgemeines Krankenhaus Wien, Austria. I completed a fellowship in Medical Retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
I regularly publish in international peer-reviewed journals and am principal investigator in various clinical trials. I am actively involved in the teaching of ophthalmologists, allied health professionals and medical students.
