BSc (Hons) Biology with Nutrition, MSc
I am a registered dietitian and my interests are weight management (loss, gain and maintenance), gastrointestinal disorders including irritable bowel syndrome and coeliac disease, and sports nutrition. I work with people to help them improve their health and wellbeing through diet. My advice is tailored to the individual so that it is realistic and sustainable. I regularly advise on the low FODMAP diet to help those with IBS reduce their symptoms; this approach has a well-documented success rate.
I commenced work in 1994 as a basic grade dietitian, completing my last clinical post at the Royal Hospital Haslar in 2002 specialising in nutrition support; this is where I developed an interest in military nutrition. I then worked for the Ministry of Defence (MOD)for 14 years as a research dietitian looking at ways to optimise physical and mental performance through nutrition. I undertook a number of studies looking at the nutritional requirements of military personnel, developed educational resources and was involved in developing nutrition-related policies for the UK Armed Forces including weight management and military dietary reference values. I sat on a number of MOD nutrition panels including a NATO panel looking at military nutrition for which I received an Award of Excellence. During this time I completed my MSc in Public Health Nutrition.training.
