I am a consultant Ophthalmic surgeon for the tertiary referral hospital, University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. I specialise in glaucoma with expertise in cataracts plus minimally invasive glaucoma device implantation (MIGS) (including OMNI, i-Stents and Preserflo microshunts) trabeculectomy, glaucoma drainage devices (PAUL,and Baerveldt tubes) and revision glaucoma surgery.
My specialities include cyclodiode, glaucoma surgeries, Hydrus, iridotomy, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), trabeculectomy, tube surgeries, YAG Laser Capsulotomy and IStent.
I completed my medical training at Aberdeen University where I published several papers on angle closure glaucoma and was awarded the Royal Society of Medicine Essay prize and the SOC Pfizer travel grant. I secured the highly competitive post of Welsh Clinical Academic Trainee to complete my specialist training in Ophthalmology and was awarded The Royal College of Ophthalmologist Bayer Educational Grant to attain a PhD in Stem Cell Mediated Retinal Repair at Cardiff University.
At the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital I completed an 18 month fellowship in surgical glaucoma where I trained in managing complex glaucoma and implanting novel surgical devices. Currently I am an honorary senior lecturer at Cardiff University and my research interests include glaucoma surgical adjunct therapies such as anti VEGF wound modulation,angle closure glaucoma and neuroprotection.Â
