MB ChB, FRCP, PhD
I am a Consultant Respiratory Physician with an interest in the investigation and treatment of patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). I also see patients with undiagnosed respiratory conditions frequently presenting with symptoms such as breathlessness and chronic cough.
I have endeavoured to improve the lives of patients with severe asthma and related breathing disorders through research. Many of these conditions cause significant breathlessness and coughing that require thorough investigation. I work in the Portsmouth Severe Asthma Service that provides access to specialist care in severe asthma including new biologic therapies.
I work as a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine and Executive Director of Research and Innovation at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust; where I am also the Clinical Director for the Portsmouth Technology Trials Unit that allows research of technologies to diagnose and treat patients with respiratory conditions.
I am also an Honorary Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Portsmouth. I was awarded Membership of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2021 for services to Respiratory Medicine. I am a co-founder of Respiaction – a social enterprise to improve the health of respiratory patients through research and education.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Professor Anoop Chauhan at Spire include:
Respiratory medicine
My recent research has been on the indoor environment in asthma in studies of children, adolescents and adults with asthma. I am also undertaking novel randomised-controlled studies of modern allergen free healthy homes in allergic asthma, and new injectable biological therapies in patients with severe asthma.
