I am a Consultant Oncologist specialising in breast cancer treatment, with over 20 years' experience in the field.
I trained at University College London and undertook postgraduate education at King's College, University College, and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals. I completed my doctorate in biological therapy of breast cancer at the Breast Unit of Guy’s and St Thomas' Hospital. I was head of the Breast Cancer Biology Group at Guy's and St Thomas', and more recently became Lead Clinician for breast cancer at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.
I am the Global Principal Investigator in clinical trials of biological therapies in the treatment of breast cancer. I serve on clinical trial steering and independent data monitoring committees for studies of novel therapies for the treatment of breast and other cancers. I also advise the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) on the adoption of new drugs being considered for breast cancer. I was invited by NICE to become a member of the committee to produce guidelines for the treatment of early stage breast cancer, and also sit on the NICE quality standards committee.
I am currently a module leader and lecturer at the Institute of Cancer Research and lectures internationally. I am an advisor to the charity Breast Cancer Care, a board member of the Cancer Vaccine Institute and sit on the Central Institutional Review Board of Cancer Research UK.
