I have 40 years’ experience in the diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment of eye diseases. After my basic medical qualification, I trained as a specialist in eye diseases (ophthalmology) in India, England, Scotland and the United States and attained advanced fellowship training in ‘cornea and external eye disease’ at one of the top 10 institutions in the US, the Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia. Further advance training for specialist procedures was acquired in Germany and the US.

Currently, I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Professor of Ophthalmology in Nottingham, since 1994 providing a service that includes diagnosis, and a range of medical and surgical treatments for simple and complex cases of eye diseases affecting the front half of the eye. I receive tertiary referrals from all over the UK, most countries in Europe, the Middle East, Indian subcontinent and the US to help with diagnosis and treatment. Numerous overseas ophthalmologists visit my unit to observe, learn and acquire training. I have been providing expert medico-legal reports for claimants and defendants for over 25 years.

In 2013 I discovered a new layer in the cornea, the pre-Descemet’s layer (Dua’s layer, also termed the Dua-Fine layer by the American Association of Ocular Oncologists and Pathologists, AAOOP). This has had considerable impact on corneal surgery making lamellar keratoplasty safer, has led to the innovation of three new surgical interventions and improved our understanding of corneal pathology.
